Over 20 years ago, Troop 19 started a tradition known as "The Fairview
Stew Campout," which has evolved into a twice a year invitation for
Webelos and other prospects to join us for the never to be forgotten
Fairview Stew.
The campout originally went to Camp Heffernan, then Camp Kishauwa (both
former camps of the W.D. Boyce Council), but now usually visits Camp
Tuckabatchee in February, where we visit the canyons of Starved Rock, and
near Bloomington-Normal for a November introduction to the Troop.
"Fairview" Stew comes from the history of the troop. The campout
began when the troop was sponsored by
Fairview Elementary School in Normal. (We moved to the First United Methodist
Church around 1990.)
We even have a song about the Stew, whose verse ends:
You will regret it, but you sure won't forget it,
It's that good old Fairview Stew.
