The New Fairview Stew
November 19999

Head for the hills, Its that good old Fairview Stew! Our annual event kicked off with watching the adults try to start a fire with flint and steel wool! Yes, they did get it started and we used it to roast our foil dinners. Afterwards the Troop Scribe had some birthday fun wrestling and watching a movie. Yes, I can proudly claim that I turned into a teenager at Fairview Stew!
Come morning we ate some pancakes and waited for the Webelos. After that, more wrestling and then the Webelos arrived. We drove up to Starved Rock for lunch and a hike up to the rock itself. The Webelos dubbed me sardine for my terrible breath was it the salami? After Starved Rock we hit several familiar hiking places.
Back at camp we participated in the traditional Snipe Hunt. Too bad most Webelos already knew better! Then came the moment wed all been waiting for the stew! My compliments to the chefs! Diane Boeck and Eileen Wallace did a great job cooking the stew. The stew would not have been complete without Freds rendition of the Fairview Stew song.
We had yet another wrestling tournament (What is this, the WWF?) after the stew. And late into the night we watched the movie Bushwhacked. We woke up to a great breakfast cooked by yours truly of bacon and eggs. Thus ended another great Fairview Stew campout. Thanks to all the adults and to our guests, the Webelos!
